The Old Custom House, built in 1560, is situated on Wells' picturesque East Quay, just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. The Victorian cast-iron Customs' crest, pictured above, is mounted on the front wall of the house just inside the yard. The water is literally a few steps away when the tide is in and the North Norfolk coast path runs past the front gate.
It has been our family home for 37 years and we have been welcoming B&B guests to stay with us in this wonderful place since 1997. The guest rooms offer magnificent views across the tidal creeks and marshes, and are equipped with TV, Wi-Fi, and tea & coffee making facilities.
We have two rooms for B&B guests offering accommodation for up to 4 guests. The Fourposter double en-suite and the Captain’s Quarters king sized double with private bathroom, both on the first floor. Breakfasts are cooked to order, using local seasonal produce whenever possible, and are served in the 16th century panelled dining room. You will find more details under B&B.
The Queen’s Warehouse ground floor, twin room has been re-equipped to include a modern kitchen and is now offered as a self-catering suite. Having its own front door, this room offers self-contained privacy for one or two guests, minimum age 8, who will be able to prepare all of their own meals using the excellent local shops for fresh produce. You will find more details under Queen’s Warehouse.
If you prefer a self-catering holiday in a cottage suitable for 2 adults and 2 children, with pets, please enquire about Rose Cottage - a pretty brick and flint fisherman's cottage immediately behind the Old Custom House. You will find more details at Rose Cottage.
