The Old Custom House was built in 1560 and served as a Custom House until about 1910. We have added quite a few features that weren't there in Elizabethan times but we like to think that we have preserved the character of the building whilst making sure that our guests are able to enjoy a high standard of comfort.

Our guest rooms look out over the creeks and marshes. The tide comes and goes twice a day creating a constantly changing view of this unique environment and its many inhabitants.

The dining room has a large window overlooking the harbour and creeks and South-facing french windows let in plenty of sunlight.

Breakfast is cooked to order using fresh, local produce. A typical menu includes fresh fruit salad, yoghurt and cereals, a choice of traditional english breakfast, smoked haddock or croissants, followed by locally-baked bread toasted with homemade jams and marmalade. Cafetiere coffee, teas and juices are in constant supply. (Special diets can be catered for)

We can help with local knowledge, bus timetables, bookings for seal trips, taxis etc., there is some off-road parking available.

Each room is equipped with digital TV, wifi internet connection, hairdryer, shaver adaptors and tea & coffee making facilities and there are plenty of books and magazines. We aim to make you feel at home and, of course, you are free to come and go as you please.

On the first floor we have two double rooms:

The "Fourposter" double room with en-suite bathroom and king-size 4 poster bed, the picture at the top of this page was taken from this bedroom window.

The "Captain's Quarters" double room with private bathroom features a king size bed and has its own spacious bathroom next door. The East window looks over the creeks and marshes towards the sunrise (most mornings!) and to the West the view is of cobblestone cottages with pantile roofs.

The "Queen's Warehouse" twin room is on the ground floor and has its own access straight on to the yard (we have wheel chair ramps for this door). We are happy to accept well behaved pets in this room (with their owners).

This spacious suite of rooms includes a dinette area with fridge, sink and microwave - ideal for preparing lunches. The bathroom features a large shower cubicle with hand basin and wc, and there are hand-holds by the wc.
